AADFI - 1975
In a March 1975 meeting in Abidjan the decision was taken by the
African Development Bank (AfDB) to create AADFI, the African
Association of Development Finance Institutions, by designating George
Aithnard of Togo, one of AfDB's senior officials as secretary general
of AADFI and providing him with office space and a small staff in the
building of the African Development Bank. It was in May 1975 in Dakar
that its first General Assembly was held. The first president was
August Daubrey of the Ivory Coast. Since then, AADFI has had seven
secretaries general as shown at the end of the text, with Magatte Wade
from Senegal holding this position currently in 2000.
The main activities of AADFI are the provision of information and
training in the techniques of banking and finance, as well as policy
advice, to African bankers and finance officers. AADFI has a
data-bank
on its members, consultants, projects and emerging markets in
Africa.
It publishes a directory of financial institutions in
Africa, an
annual report of activities, and twice a year a finance and
development review. As of May 2008, AADFI had 73 members in 43
countries. The AADFI website is: http://www.aadfi.org/
