WFDFI  -  Action Program

  1. WFDFI RELAUNCHING

The WFDFI will celebrate its 26th anniversary in 2005. Armed with the experience gathered over these years and considering the present situation and prospects of the development banking system in the world, let us meet the challenges of reconsidering WFDFI very guiding principles, openly acknowledging its institutional condition, renewing its commitment to its Members –particularly the Regional Members— and projecting it into the future. All of this is conceivable today, thanks to the recognition that development banks are necessary and important for dealing with market imperfections that economic reforms have been unable to remedy.

The WFDFI was created basically as an organization that brings together the regional associations and so it should remain. It should help to strengthen those members and the coordination among them and, through them, the worldwide development banking system and the institutions affiliated with each regional association. It should not duplicate their activities or seek to work directly with national development banks and financial institutions, precisely because of its essential nature as a third level international organization and in order not to compete with the regional associations. In this way, it will equip those associations to serve national institutions more efficiently.
