FINANCING AND PROMOTION OF THE MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM COMPANY: SELECTED EXPERIENCES OF CHILE

The Publication contains the lectures offered by the Corporation of Promotion of Producción (CORFO) and its branch the Service of Cooperacion Technical (SERCOTEC), like public institutions of second floor; of the Bank of the Development, a private financial institution with a approach in the social sector and the small economic initiatives; and The Banco of State, that operate like specialized commercial public bank in micro, small and medium companies. In this publicatio appear, among other aspects, the origins, evolution and more outstanding profits of these institutions, as well as the characteristics and operative procedures of its credit programs, products, services and strategic instruments of promotion for the micro, small and medium companies. In the case of the Bank of Desarrollo and Banco of State - institutions that occupy positions of leadership in the financing to the small and microcompanies of Chile describe the factors that have been key in the business with these enterprise sectors, the same one that comes developing with singular success.

It analyzes the financial developments more recent than they have been identified in the region to facilitate the access to the financing of micro and small company, in particular, with financial products that make a use intensive of the modern technologies of the communication and information, and that they can allow increased in the bancarización of this sector reducing the costs of transaction and the risks. In Particular, consider some of the most outstanding experiences in the financing to the micro and small company of Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico and Peru.
 

FINANCING, INSURANCES AND SERVICES FOR THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL SECTOR IN LATIN AMERICA

It examines the policies of financing of the agricultural development; the role of the State in the creation of a propitious frame and institutions for the financing of the rural development; as well as the oriented measures to promote and to fortify the rural financial intermediation. Also, it analyzes the use of guarantees, farming insurances and of varied instruments for mitigación of the risk in the rural loans. Finally, in the rural subject of agricultural competitiveness and services, it examines with particular attention the areas of qualification, investigation and agricultural extension, and the integration of the small agriculture with the market.

DEVELOPMENT BANK CONDITIONS FOR AN EFFICIENT MANAGEMENT

In this publication, Doctor Vives first has a brief review of the recent evolution of the financial system, since that experience has had a great impact in which it is or what it must be the development bank. Later, he comments out on the difference in the incentives that the public bank versus the private bank has, to aim that the readers draw their own conclusions of how the financial system in the different countries would be due to organize. Also he talks about the role that must fulfill the development bank, and the conditions in which the State must participate in the financial intermediation when this is necessary.

This technical document presents the characteristics, conditions of the instruments and the modalities of financing for the technological development of a set of development financing institutions; as well as of the national organisms in charge to promote the development of science and the technology. CD-ROM DATABANK 2003: DEVELOPMENT BANKS OF LATIN AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN

DATABANK is a data base of information of Development Financial Institutions of Latin America and the Caribbean. It contains institutional information (institutional reviews, objectives and authorities). It presents financial information of around 100 banks on: general balance sheet, earnings statement; financial indicators 1997-2001; ranking 2001 and ratings risk of the development financial institutions; information on the funds, financing lines and programs for the productive sectors. It includes the types of operations and businesses that make the development financial institutions and the criteria of qualification which they use to define to micro, small or medium company, as well as a selection Technical Documents, elaborated and presented by the General Secretariat of ALIDE and its organizations members, in diverse conferences and meetings; Bibliographical Summaries by subject and the Catalogue of Publications of ALIDE, elaborated by the Latin American Center of Documentation in Bank and Finances for the Development

LINES, PROGRAMS AND NATIONAL FUND OF SUPPORT TO THE FINANCING OF THE HOUSING AND INFRASTRUCTURE

With the purpose of promoting to the information on the experiences of support to the sector housing, ALIDE presents the technical document "Lines, Programs and National Funds of Support to the Financing of the Housing and Infrastructure", in Latin America, with a comparative and referential intention. The document contains information about the characteristics and conditions of financing for the sector of the housing and infrastructure of a group of fourteen development financial institutions as well as of the national programs and funds of support to this sector, from eleven Latin American countries.

FINANCING FOR THE FOREIGN TRADE LATIN AMERICAN

ALIDE presents the technical document "Financing for the Foreign Trade Latin American", which informs on the characteristics, conditions, instruments and financing modalities for the foreign trade of a group of sixteen development financial institutions, as well as of the credit insurances to the export of Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico and Uruguay.

 

FINANCING LINES AND PROGRAMS FOR THE AGRICULTURAL AND RURAL SECTOR

The technical document, “Financing Programs and Lines for the Agricultural Sector” is presented by ALIDE to disseminate development banks’ financial and non-financial support instruments and methods for the agricultural sector.  Information is provided about the characteristics and financing terms for the agricultural sector of a group of 19 development financing institutions from 11 Latin American countries.

CREDIT LINES AND PROGRAMS FOR MICRO, SMALL AND MEDIUM BUSINESSES

ALIDE presents the technical document, Financing Programs and Lines for Micro, Small and Medium Businesses, for the purpose of promoting the efforts of development banks in the micro, small and medium business sector and making them more widely known.  This document contains information about the characteristics, instrument terms, and financing methods for the S&MB sector of a group of 27 development financing institutions from 12 Latin American countries.

THE VIABILITY AND SUSTAINABILITY OF THE DEVELOPMENT BANKING SYSTEM IN A GLOBALIZED WORLD

This publication studies the development financing situation in Latin America and the challenge of being able to achieve sustained growth in the medium and long terms, as well as of attaining more equitable conditions and creating further jobs by means of  healthy actions and practices for developing and promoting priority sectors.  The initial section of the publication offers a summary by subject matter that encompasses the main conclusions of the Thirty-first Regular Meeting of the ALIDE General Assembly (ALIDE XXXI), held in San José, Costa Rica last May.
